Cadillacs in Movies: Iconic Cars on the Silver Screen

Hollywood: Cadillacs in the movies
Hollywood: Cadillacs in the movies

Cadillac models are synonymous with class and style, one reason this automaker has been featured in movies from the Golden Age of Hollywood to contemporary flicks. With an air of sophistication and bold looks you won’t find anywhere else, Cadillacs represent something unique in the movies. Below is a short list, in no particular order, of some Cadillacs in the movies.

According to the Cadillac Country Club, these are just some of the many to appear:

  1. 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor AmbulanceGhostbusters (1984). Who ya’ gonna call? This classic movie features a far-out Cadillac ambulance customized to store everything from ectoplasm to real ghosts. Even the latest Ghostbusters movie (2016) has a 1982 Cadillac Hearse Wagon as a tribute to the original ECTO-1.
  2. 1971 Fleetwood EldoradoFear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998). Based on Hunter S. Thompson’s famous Gonzo-journalist masterpiece, this film stars Johnny Depp as he drives across the country on a drug-fueled adventure. The Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado is big and bold, perfect for a Thompson-esque ride.
  3. 1959 Series 62 ConvertiblePink Cadillac (1989). This quirky Clint Eastwood film even has the brand name in its title. Bernadette Peters plays a distressed wife who is attempting to outrun bounty hunters and a band of thugs in her husband’s prized pink Cadillac when mayhem ensues.
  4. 1956 Fleetwood 60 SpecialDriving Miss Daisy (1989). Based on a classic Alfred Uhry play, this film stars Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman in a fun and emotional plot. Exploring issues of race and mortality, many of the movie’s most famous scenes take place in a smooth-running Cadillac.
  5. 1935 370-D The Artist (2011). This Oscar-winning film was the first silent blockbuster to hit the silver screen in decades. With an inherently nostalgic core and a classic Hollywood feel, it seems only natural that a 1935 Cadillac 370-D should make multiple appearances in the film.

These are just some of the more popular Cadillacs to appear in films. As a true American car, it’s easy to see why so many filmmakers love using this iconic brand.
