There are quite a few regular maintenance steps you need to do to keep your vehicle running well for all the miles ahead. You probably have the big ones down: oil changes, tire rotations, tune-ups. But what about your brakes?
When was the last time you had them checked out or replaced by a skilled professional technician like our service staff here at Midland Buick GMC? The time might be now to pay us a visit for quality, customer-first brake maintenance.
If you’re not sure whether you need new brakes or not, here are a few things to look out for:
Do you feel your car pull or move to one side when you hit the brakes? This is referred to as “pulling” and is a sign you may need new brakes.
If your steering wheel or entire car starts to pulsate or vibrate when you brake, you probably need new brakes. Vibrating can mean you are driving on over worn rotors, decreasing your vehicle’s roadworthiness and safety.
If you hear a harsh metallic growl or squeal sound when you brake, your brakes are grinding and it is imperative to have your brakes examined and replaced as soon as possible.
Contact us at Midland Buick GMC if you are worried about your brakes.

We are entering the time of year when more and more children are taking to the sidewalk, exiting buses, and crossing streets on their way to school, so it is a relief to learn about the extra steps to protect pedestrians Buick is taking in 2018.
If an accident occurs between a pedestrian and vehicle, it can often cause major injury or, in some cases, death, due to the extremely vulnerable position of the pedestrian. In fact, 15 percent of fatalities involving a car in the United States are due to pedestrian impacts. The new Active Hood Pedestrian Safety System, available in the 2018 Buick Regal GS, aims to make these types of tragedies a thing of the past.
Active Hood Pedestrian Safety System
The Active Hood Pedestrian Safety System works by deploying the hood away from the rock-hard engine components in the event of an accident, greatly decreasing the level of impact between the pedestrian and the most dangerous part of the vehicle. Essentially, the system functions like an external airbag or cushion. The Active Hood Pedestrian Safety System is able to achieve split-second responsiveness thanks to advanced sensors placed in the front bumper of the Buick Regal GS.
Taking steps to protect pedestrians is important, and Midland Buick GMC is proud to provide vehicles to our customers which increase the overall safety of our communities.
It’s just about time to breathe a sigh of relief, parents, because the school year is almost back. While a return to the routine of the school can take a load off the mind, it does bring back some old stressors, like successful transportation to and from school, after-school activities, weekend events, and more.
Midland Buick GMC is here to help: here are four things parents should keep in the car all school year long!
Sooner or later, something will spill. Be ready with a variety of towels both large and small.
You’ve sopped up the aforementioned mess with a towel, but what if it was a sticky juice or slushy treat? Have some moist wipes ready to take care of sticky messes on seats, windows, and faces before they get out of hand.
Ask one of your kiddos how their day at school went, and there’s a good chance that they’ll simply respond, “I’m hungry.” Be ready for their after-school “starvation” with some on-hand non-perishable snacks.
Who really knows how boo-boos occur, but they sure do occur often. Of all the things parents should keep in the car, Band-Aids may be the most simple and essential. Go ahead and throw some in your purse too, if you carry one!
While many people outside of Texas imagine our state as simply rolling hills of desert and grass, here in the Lone Star State we know better. Our home has a wide and varied landscape that leads to some spectacular sights. Here are some of the best natural attractions in Texas to visit on your next adventure.
- Balmorhea State Park. Take a weekend trip to Toyahvale to take a swim in the crystal clear, spring-fed waters. Once you experience what swimming in natural spring water feels like, you won’t ever want to swim in a harsh chlorinated pool again.
- Devil’s River. Catch a glimpse of the beautiful blue waters found in the Devil’s River. It is located in remote Del Rio, which makes it one of the cleanest rivers in the state—an ideal place to go fishing.
- Big Bend National Park. This park is located right along the border with Mexico. Here you can take in the breathtaking sights of a lone mountain range surrounded by desert. You may even catch glimpses of the hundreds of bird species who call this area home.
Here at Midland Buick GMC Cadillac, we love taking in the natural beauty of Texas and are proud to call this state our home. What is your favorite natural attraction in Texas?
Is adventure calling to you? Do you long to take the road less traveled and depart from the beaten path? It may be time to set out on all those off-road journeys you’ve been dreaming up. Before setting out, here are some tips on how to off-road successfully and traverse rough terrains like a champ.
Know your vehicle and its capabilities:
If you own a truck or SUV, chances are that it has some off-roading capability. However, capability varies greatly between vehicles, so you will want to know exactly what your particular vehicle is capable of. You will want to understand your traction control system and if you have a traction select system, how your 4WD system works, and if you have a locking differential. You will also want to understand the demands of whatever terrain you’re traversing beforehand.
Off-road equipment options:
Not only may your vehicle come with built-in off-roading systems, but you can also add on off-road equipment to increase your vehicle’s capabilities. For instance, you can add a set of all-terrain tires to your vehicle, lift your vehicle’s suspension and install superior shock absorbers, or install front bumpers to further protect your vehicle.
Have emergency supplies:
Off-roading comes with risks, so make sure to have a first-aid kit on hand in case of an accident. You will also want to pack food and water, warm clothing, and have an emergency plan – including how you’re going to contact someone if something goes amiss – in place.
Contact us at Midland Buick GMC if you have questions for us about the capability of your Buick or GMC vehicle. We’ll be happy to help!

Summer is upon us, and it’s time to venture out from home and explore with the family. The warm weather and long days of summer present the perfect opportunity to set out on a summer road trip, exploring the region you call home or venturing out further across the states. Before you do so, however, you should make sure your car is ready to hit the road and travel for long distances in the heat. Here are a few tips on how to get your car ready for summer road trips.
Before you leave, check your vehicle’s oil and fluid levels:
These simple checks go a long way. Perhaps get an oil change before you set out, and make sure you have adequate amounts of windshield wiper fluid and antifreeze/coolant.
Check tire treads, pressure, and consider getting your tires rotated:
The condition of your vehicle’s tires affect your vehicle’s overall performance, so you will want to check them before setting out. Check the tires’ treads to make sure they’re not too worn, check your tire pressure – which can affect your vehicle’s handling, control, and efficiency, and get your tires rotated if you have routine maintenance performed at the shop before you depart.
Have an emergency plan and extra supplies:
Pack extra water and have an emergency plan in place in case something goes awry. For instance, make sure to have power cords for your devices, so you can keep them charged up and make calls, and an idea of what you’d do if you have to stop.
If you’re worried about your ride being able to handle a long road trip, bring it in to the Midland Buick GMC Service Department or contact our sales team to find a better option.
